TEENAGERS AND SPORT

It's quite rare to meet teenagers who don't like sports. When you are young, you know how important (41) ………to do physical exercise if you want to be healthy and strong, and for that reason you often concentrate on just one sport with so much (42) ……..that in the end you can't live without it. The problem is, though, that as you grow up you have less and less spare time. At your age you have to study harder if you want to get good marks to go to university, with perhaps only one afternoon a week to do any sport. This happens just when you are at the best (43) ………for many sports, such as gymnastics and swimming. By the time you finish all your studies you will probably be too old to be really good (44) ……… sports like those, but if you spend enough time on training while you are young, then one day you will find that you are very good at your sport but too old to study, and you will find it (45).………… to get a good job. Somehow, it doesn't seem fair.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to each of the questions.

Do you ever wonder why we can see into the future? I once read a story which almost made me sure that at least some people can.

A man living on his own in a flat was sitting reading one evening when he suddenly smelled smoke corning from somewhere in the flat. He immediately got up and went to the kitchen because he thought he must have left something on the gas by mistake. There was certainly the smell of smoke, but there was nothing burning. So he looked in the hall and the bedroom and the bathroom, but he still couldn't find anything burning. When he went outside the flat, there was no smell of burning at all, so, thinking it must be his imagination, he went back to his reading.

A month later he returned from a trip to find firemen putting out a fire in his flat. They told him that some electric wires had short circuit and caused the fire. So was it simply that the wires had started smouldering a month before or did he in fact "see into the future"?

C©u 49: He searched his flat thoroughly only to find    _______

A. something burning                                                 B. electrical wires burning
