AOC to Jon Stewart: ‘Normalized’ Trump Could Be Even More Dangerous in a Second Term

In a powerful conversation on The Problem with Jon Stewart, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) laid out her concerns about the potential dangers of a second term for Donald Trump, stressing that he could be much more dangerous this time around because he's become "normalized." She explained that during his first term, people were on high alert, watching closely for any breaks from political norms. But now, she says, "The norms are becoming him. The norms are embracing him."

Stewart added to the conversation, reflecting on how surreal it felt to see Democrats sticking to "decorum" during Trump’s inauguration, especially after the Capitol riot. He pointed out that it often seemed like Democrats were simply submitting to Trump’s behavior rather than challenging it, saying, “In some ways, [Trump] clowns them. It doesn’t look like holding to protocol, it looks like submission.”

The conversation turned more intense when Stewart highlighted the apocalyptic rhetoric about Trump during his rise to power. "When you're creating apocalyptic messaging about a fascist—" Stewart began, to which AOC jumped in with a quick, "Literally!" Stewart went on, asking, "Did you believe any of the s— you were saying before, or was that just part of your messaging?"

AOC fully agreed with Stewart’s point, emphasizing that Trump's normalization makes him far more dangerous. She pointed out how even luxury designers, like Oscar de la Renta, now dress women in the First and Second families for inaugural events, a sign of how Trump's influence has spread from the everyday to the highest levels of society. "All of these people that were scared before of being associated with him... they're all in now," AOC said.

She described the political scene as a "billionaire feeding frenzy," where people are scrambling to prove their loyalty to Trump to secure their place. “It’s a kiss a-- race,” she said. “It is, how can I show how much fealty I have to Donald Trump in order to get my digs?”

AOC didn’t hold back, warning, “You’re being ripped off. You’re being ripped off, dude! Like, everyone is being ripped off.” She then delivered a sharp criticism of Trump, calling him “the quintessential New York con man,” using his position for personal gain while deceiving the public.

AOC and Stewart’s conversation was a stark reminder of the growing normalization of Trump’s behavior and the dangerous impact it could have if he returns to office. With Trump’s influence now more entrenched than ever, both fear that the country could face even greater challenges ahead.
