Scene outside the Federal Courthouse in Austin, with Homeland Security and US Marshals
A shooter who was targeting multiple buildings in downtown Austin, including the police department, has been shot dead by police early Friday morning.
An officer saw the suspect, who was wearing some kind of vest, and fired, Chief of Staff Raul Munguia told a press briefing. No one else was injured in the incident.

Munguia said police saw an improvised explosive device in the car next to the suspect.
The car was parked in an area near to the Mexican consulate, a federal courthouse and the police department's headquarters. Footage aired by Austin TV station KXAN showed the bomb squad using a robot.

Police have not ruled out the potential of there being more than one device and are checking the scene.

There are also police at the scene of the suspect's apartment in north Austin, checking for other potential devices.

Speaking to Keyetv, a witness, Angelina Villarreal, said she heard the gun blast as she was driving west on 7th street.

Villarreal said she saw the suspect on 8th street, parked on the right hand side of the street across from the Austin Police Department headquarters. She said he was dressed all in black, in what appeared to be SWAT-style clothing.
