The entire "Community" cast, pictured, is set to return for a sixth season, to be presented by Yahoo.
#Sixseasonsandamovie is alive — now it just needs a movie.
In a save that's even more shocking than every World Cup match we've seen so far, cult-favorite comedy Community will return for a 13-episode sixth season — by Yahoo on its nascent video platform Yahoo Screen.
"I am very pleased that Community will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo," said show creator Dan Harmon in a statement. “I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, Big Bang Theory. Look out, Bang Bus!”
Until recently, Community's studio, Sony, had been in talks with Hulu about resurrecting the series following its May cancellation by NBC. Yahoo has saved us all from the Darkest Timeline.
In a statement, star Joel McHale also added an important note about the upcoming sixth season, "It’s the internet. We can swear now."
The entire regular cast is set to return for the season — which, per TVLine, excludes Donald Glover, who was a recurring player in Season 5. It will bow in fall.
Bringing a known quantity like "Community" to Yahoo is a bold statement as CEO Marissa Mayer moves to bolster the company's entrance to original TV content. Mayer said in April that Yahoo had been preparing to launch four shows with budgets that would compete with other digital content creators like Netflix and Hulu.
In addition to TV content, Yahoo has also invested heavily in other areas of its media operations, including hiring numerous journalists for its news operations. The investments come as Mayer seeks to shift Yahoo toward the more lucrative growth areas of digital media.
